Brattleboro's Ski Jumping LegacyThe Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition is a celebrated Brattleboro tradition that dates back to 1922. The two-day tournament brings world-class jumpers from the U.S. and Europe. It is one of the region’s most popular winter sporting events. It is the site of 18 national and regional championships. The most recent was in 1992 when Brattleboro hosted the National Championships. Harris Hill’s reputation for organizing first-class tournaments dates back to 1923 when the newly built hill was the site of the National Ski Jumping Championships. Photos show proof of the enormous appeal of this event, with crowds in the thousands coming from near and far. Over the years, it has become a tradition with the people of this region. One of the top jumping venues in the country, Harris Hill is a favorite among ski jumpers everywhere because of the hospitality, festive atmosphere and continued reputation for attracting an enthusiastic crowd of spectators. |
