MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ELISABETH VON TRAPP TO SING NATIONAL ANTHEM AT HARRIS HILL SKI JUMP OPENING CEREMONIES Granddaughter of Maria & Baron Von Trapp * Saturday, February 13, 11 a.m.
Brattleboro, Vt. – Elisabeth Von Trapp, granddaughter of the legendary Maria and Baron Von Trapp, whose story inspired The Sound of Music, will sing the national anthem at the opening ceremonies for Saturday’s Harris Hill Ski Jumping competition.
For Elisabeth Von Trapp, ‘the sounds of music’ are part of her earliest memories. Born and raised in Vermont, Elisabeth has been singing professionally since childhood, to the delight of audiences from European cathedrals to Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center.
Inspired by her father Werner von Trapp’s guitar playing and singing, Elisabeth has carried on the legacy of the internationally renowned Trapp Family Singers with her own artistic style. Elisabeth’s concert repertoire ranges from Bach to Broadway and Schubert to Sting.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Elisabeth sing at our ski jumping competition,” said Betsy Farley, Co-Director of the Harris Hill Ski Jump Organizing Committee. “And it’s so fitting, since we have two jumpers here from Austria this weekend as special guests of Harris Hill.”

Details: Held the same week as the Olympics in Vancouver on a brand new Olympic-size, 90-meter hill, the Harris Hill Ski Jumping competition offers spectators an opportunity to experience the Olympic sport of ski jumping up close in all its breathtaking, heart-stopping glory as they watch the jumpers launch from the take off and soar more than 300 feet at speeds of nearly 60 mph before they land.
This year’s competition is attracting an impressive field of jumpers as the USSA SuperTour finals will take place on Saturday. This is also Harris Hill’s exciting come-back from 2009 when a record of more than 6,000 spectators turned out for the event.
