2000 WINGED SKI TROPHY WINNER VLADIMIR GLYVKA RETURNS TO HARRIS HILL SKI JUMP Harris Hill Ski Jump, February 13 & 14, Brattleboro, Vermont
Brattleboro, Vt. – Vladimir Glyvka, the Ukranian ski jumper who wowed the crowds at Harris Hill in 1996, 1999 and 2000 with his stunning form and distance, and winner of the Fred Harris Memorial Tournament in each of those three years, is coming to Brattleboro this weekend to help celebrate the 2010 Harris Hill Competition February 13 and 14.
“It will be so great to be back in Brattleboro and see everyone,” said Glyvka, the 2000 recipient of Harris Hill’s coveted winged ski trophy, from his home in Springfield, Illinois where he lives with his wife and daughter. “I’m bringing my skis and if the conditions are right and I get a good feeling about the new hill, I’ll jump,” Glyvka added.
In 1996, Glyvka set a new hill record of 310 feet, which he held until 2001 when it was broken by Primoz Delavec of Slovenia who jumped 320 feet. His wins in 1999 and 2000 did not surpass his 1996 hill record.
Glyvka competed on the Ukrainian national team, competed to Nagano, Japan, in 1998. After retiring the trophy in 2000, he continued his ski jumping career which culminated with the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. He is still involved with ski jumping as a volunteer at the Norge Ski Club, in Fox River Grove, Illinois, the oldest ski club in the U.S.
Glyvka will be coming to Brattleboro with his brother, Oleg, who is the ski jumping coach in Ishpeming, Michigan. Oleg was Glyvka’s coach for the 2002 Olympics.

Details: Held the same week as the Olympics in Vancouver on a brand new Olympic-size, 90-meter hill, the Harris Hill Ski Jumping competition offers spectators an opportunity to experience the Olympic sport of ski jumping up close in all its breathtaking, heart-stopping glory as they watch the jumpers launch from the take off and soar more than 300 feet at speeds of nearly 60 mph before they land.
This year’s competition is attracting an impressive field of jumpers as the USSA SuperTour finals will take place on Saturday. This is also Harris Hill’s exciting come-back from 2009 when a record of more than 6,000 spectators turned out for the event.
